Mixtape Monday: Serius Jones-Serius Business
Battle champ Serius Jones has some serious issues. He’s from New Jersey, which some of my relatives and friends from the Garden State will tell you is enough to give a guy a complex. But on top of that, he’s been through a lot lately. First the highs. He began to gain attention as a battle rapper by winning against the genre’s best and brightest. There was his battle with Murdah Mook, the 12 consecutive wins at New York’s Monday Night Fight Klub, and the eventual dethroning of Jin as Fight Klub King. Labels began to compete for his services, and eventually Ludacris’s Disturbing tha Peace won out, signing Jones to a multi-million dollar record deal.
Then came the lows. DTP ended up severing it’s label deal with Def Jam. In the changing atmosphere, Serious’ project was shelved. He felt like the buzz he had worked to create for himself with the battle wins was being wasted. The partnership ended. Back to the drawing board.
And this is what he came up with. The beats are mainly classic instrumentals, and the rhymes are all new and fresh, and display Serius ability to create lines and verses as dead ass as his name. As always, if you want a digital copy of the mixtape, send an email to hiphoplivesmixtapes@gmail.com and you will be added to the mailing list. If you need a sample now, here is one of his tracks off the tape. Enjoy.
