Producer Profile: Mr. Porter
Who is Mr. Porter?…Mr…..Porter…..
Mr. Porter. Dr. Horace Porter? My college adviser and one of my favorite professors was a huge jazz fan, but he is not the producer known as Mr. Porter.
Mr. Porter. Cole Porter? The late songwriter and composer was a producer, but not the Hip Hop producer who goes by the name Mr. Porter.
Mr. Porter. Denaun Porter? Yeah, that’s the guy. But wait a minute, isn’t he a rapper?
Well the secret is out. The man who has produced tracks under the name Mr. Porter, is actually D12 member Kon Artis. While he still raps with the group, he has also been busy creating a producer alter-ego known as Mr. Porter to help release his creative energy. His biggest hits were done for G-Unit and include “P.I.M.P.”, “Stunt 101″, and “Look at Me Now”. In my underground shaded opinion, his best track is “They’re Out to Get Me” off of Busta’s The Big Bang. He also sings on several tracks, proving that rappers who sing don’t have to use perfect pitch machines to sound soulful.
Besides being multi-talented, Mr. Porter is also a supporter of Hip Hop culture, and one of those industry types who loves helping young up and coming MCs get an introduction to his world. He has a website where he sells his beats at very affordable prices, and he is accessible to people who really want to work. The song I posted below is a joint he produced for one of my new favorite MCs, Jay Electronica, and also features him sangin on the hook. A lot of people front on D12, probably out of jealousy, but the haters have to admit, this dirty dozens member has talent that even Eminem can’t overshadow.
