His name has been everywhere lately. He’s on Kanye’s new record, 88 Keys new record, a new Alchemist record, and an A-Trak record. Notice a trend. Some of the best sound providers in the game have co-signed on this Cleveland MC’s emerging career. Should you agree?

I think so. I mean, we’ll see when he actually drops and album for us to judge his complete creative abilities, but I like what I’ve heard so far. He’s kinda hard to describe. He definitely doesn’t sound like he’s trying to fill any niche. He’s not ultra political or lyrical, he’s not living the glamour life like a lot of MCs wanna pretend, and he’s not a super thug either. In fact, it’s kinda hard to figure out what his angle is. But that’s kinda the angle in itself. He’s just being himself, and if you are into that, you will dig his music.

And the music is good overall. Catchy yet not formulaic. Groovy but tangible if that makes sense. His first single was “Day N Nite”, and he dropped a mixtape through 10 Deep called A Kid Named Cudi.  A sample is included below, and if you are on the mailing list (hiphoplivesmixtapes@gmail.com) you’ll get the full copy tomorrow. His album slated for an ‘09 release through Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music label is gonna be called Man on the Moon, and if he lives up to the promise, it should be the first of many fine albums. It’s gonna be hard to be successful in this day and age, especially coming from Cleveland, the land of the Browns, Cavs, and Indians, but if anybody is up to it, maybe it’s Cudi.
