As long as there have been DJ’s, there have have been sound clashes. And one of the DJ’s best strike out pitches was the curve ball, those genre bending mash-ups that create something fresh from overplayed radio hits. We are exposed to these records on a day to day basis, and the mash-up allows us to hear it again for the first time. Sometimes just putting a little “Wata-Bam-Bam” under something will work wonders. The Reggae remix in fact has become a staple for the promotion of an artist. Whole mix tapes are created every day that feature just these match-ups. Some are better than others. You can pretty much match any Busta song with any dancehall song and it’ll work. Wayne is also a popular starter artist for crafting your own mixes. More experienced Djs might step up to the plate and try for something crazy like Twista to some rocksteady. I’m telling you, I’ve heard it, and when it works, wow.

Today’s meditation in particular is Bashment Blends 2008 by Dj Nasty EFX, if you belong to the mailing list, check your email, it’s in your inbox. For those less committed members, here’s your snacks.

I like the third the best, reggae sounds good when you put it to anything. Or maybe this is just some good shit… puff puff pass!
